The Best Kind Of Pizza- Free!

Well, not exactly... a couple of months back, I ordered a pizza from my go to pizza joint- Florentines'.. two blocks from my house, we have had nothing but great pizza, delivered on time(or earlier!) for almost 20 years! Except the last time... Told it would be here in 1/2 hour, it came 1/2 hour late.. cold and pretty much inedible. I'm not the sort who complains to hear my own voice, but over 20 years, you'd think we had formed what I call a bond... I called up and asked for the manager.. a woman came to the phone and wanted to know the problem. I did not recognize her voice, and had never seen a woman in charge of this place. She proceeded to tell me she had been in charge the whole time- which I know was B.S... She was quite short with me, and said she would send out a gift certificate to cover the cost of the pizza.. We finally received it, and plan to use it tonight, as it's colder than all get out and we don't want to grocery shop! After watching some of those shows on TV where employees do nasty things to your food- I'm a little nervous!

Steak And Vegetable Soup, A Winter Warming Meal

Yesterday was a typical cold winter's day, some snow, some wind, and gray skies...I had a smattering of veggies due for replacement, and wanted to use them up. A warming thought of a hearty beef vegetable soup sounded like just the ticket!
A slow cooker is ideal for soup making- long low heat, allowing all the flavors to meld and become just the right texture...
1 large potato, diced
1 medium onion, diced
2 stalks celery, chopped
2 carrots, peeled and chopped
1 LB beef, cubed
1 large tomato, chopped
24oz of low sodium beef broth
6 oz of V-8 juice(really!)
salt, black pepper, garlic, herbs and spices to taste
All in slow cooker together, on high heat setting for 1-1/2 hr., on low for 5hrs.
Add 1/2 cup of thick brown gravy (optional)for a thicker broth
Soups on!
I also made those crescent rolls everybody eats, but nobody admits to.. was going to make mini cheddar cheese sandwiches out of them, but wife just wanted them with butter!

Whole New York Strip Loin , Cut To Your Liking..

You know how? You buy one on sale, and cut it up yourself! I bought a close to 7.8lb. cyropacked boneless NY strip loin, cut it into various sized steaks, and one small roast- all hand cut and trimmed by me... That pile of meat you are looking at in the photo only cost $27.14! One skinny one will be pan fried for son today in the form of two steak sandwiches, three of the less attractive ones will become Monday's steak and potato soup, and the rest will be frozen.
Friday we were out of town, and Saturday wife worked and I was sick, so lack of food posts hopefully explained..
